Assignment 2: Developmental Process

The 5 steps of Abstraction Process are being shown here. The two characters that i have chosen are Donnie Yen, representation of the Chinese Martial Arts and Mike Tyson, representation of Western Martial Arts.

Acquiring the images of the 2 of them was quite a tedious process as I had to find images that were of high resolutions so that i can trace them out more accurately. Furthermore, i felt that Tyson had insufficient prominent in just 1 image. As such i decided to source for another image so that i can effectively highlight his features through juxtaposition.

Donnie Yen's prominent features are his lips and his hand movement (Wing Chun) while Mike Tyson's prominent features are his lips, scar and boxing gloves.

For step 1, the main thing i did was to trace out both Donnie and Tyson.

For Step 2, i remove fine details from their shirt and body.

For step 3, i removed and abstracted their bodies.

For step 4, i altered Donnie's hair and Tyson's head.

For step 5, i reduce both of them further such that they cannot be recognised easily.

Chosen One:

I decided to use step 4 for my final prototype as it was the last stage in which i can still recognise them.
