Assignment 5: Climate Change (Final Prototype)

And this is my Final Prototype for my Climate Change Infographic. Hopefully, it will be able to raise awareness among readers about the importance of our forests and the negative impacts of deforestation in a interesting manner.

Assignment 5: Climate Change Developmental Process

In this assignment, i decided to explore deforestation as the key issue regarding to climate change. I found it quite easy to find the article as there are so mant articles out there that talks about climate changes. However, my chosen article was one in which i could highlight the causes and effects of deforestation so that there is more scope for the creation of my infographic. And this is my initial sketch. I tried to place the infographic in a plain form so that readers can easily identify with the entire process of deforestation, from causes to effects. I will also put in various animals, plants and images to make my infographic more appealing. One important thing to note during the design process was that i need to make sure that my design does not turn out into a poster like kind of artwork.

Next, i placed my sketch into CG form using illustrator and showed it to my classmates and tutor. They liked the idea of me using different colours to represent the functions, causes and effects for deforestation. They also liked the fact that i explored different shapes and lines for the infographic which makes it more interesting.

However, they felt that i needed more text and explaination for my infographic. A legend was also suggested to make it easier for readers to identify with the different sections. Furthermore, some of my images were inconsistent. For instance, the monkey looked realistic while the cow looked kiddish. As such, i was given suggestions to make them more consistent throughout. And also my alignments of my texts need to be further improved as they looked distorted throughout.

As such, i tried to improve on this design by making everything more consistent and use better positioning for my texts and graphics.

Class Ex: E (Talking Forms)

In this class exercise, i tried to use lines and symbols to depict the two words "power" and "calm" respectively.

Assignment 4: Colour Coalition (Final Prototype)

And presenting my final prototype for my post card! The back of the post card is in black and white and possess elements of the original EZ link card. Hopefully my postcard can heighten people's perspective of EZ link travelling within Singapore!

Assignment 4: Colour Coalition Developmental Process

The aim of this assignment is to experiment the use of different colours for a post-card related to travelling theme. Here are the sketches that i came out with for the initial stage. I wanted to promote local travelling through the use of public transport such as bus and mrt.

Afterwhich, i found it quite plain to just have the Singapore map, bus and mrt alone. Hence, i decided to include more elements such as people from all walks of lives and different races so that i can better experiment with the different colours later on. I also made the shape of my postcard similar to that of the EZ link card which actually makes it more unique.

And here's the various colour schemes that i tried out for my final prototype. It was indeed a tedious and tiring process to choose and try out so many colours. I got some of the categories from the templates within illustrator while some of the themes i came out myself and match them by experimenting with different swatches and gradient! And finally i chose the last exploration for my final prototype as it best signifies Singapore as a little red dot in this global world which promotes local travelling.

Assignment 3: U C What I C (Photo Story)

And this is my Final Prototype for my photo story! It is titled "The Fall of the Arrogant Scissors, Paper, Stone King". Try deciphering it before you look at the actual story! Good luck.

Assignment 3: U C What I C Developmental Process

Here are the sketches i did for assignment 3 before taking the actual photos. And here's the actual storyline that i planned prior to that.

1) An innocent girl is studying in the garden when a fierce-looking man appears

2) The man is the “Scissors, Paper, Stone” King

3) The girl looks stunned as the King intimidates her with a thumbs-down

4) Both of them prepare for a game of “Scissors, Paper, Stone”

5) Surprisingly, the girl won! The King looks stunned

6) The fallen King was disappointed as his 10 years record was broken and starts to drink his Jolly Shandy

7) The drunk King staggers away from the garden

8) A bad day turns worse as the fallen King arrives at the wrong toilet

9) The newly-crowned champion giggles at the plight of the arrogant fallen King

Next, i had to find people who could help me out to act as characters within the story. I approached a few of my friends who were very willing to provide assistance for this assignment. Another problem faced was the setting of the photoshoot. Initially i wanted to use the Deck as the setting of the photoshoot but i realised there were too many people there which makes it more difficult for my story to flow. As such i decided to use the garden park just beside the NUS Co-op to perform my photoshoot.

During the photoshoot, i took numerous photos from different angles for each of the chosen scene so as to give myself more options when selecting the most appropriate one for my final prototype. Some of the shots used were like close-up shots, over the shoulder shots and wide angle shots.

Furthermore, to make the photos and my story more impactful, I used various photoshop techniques such as changing the opaqness and various tracing methods to make my story more evident just by looking at the photos alone.
